Amazing Marche region

For all tastes

More than just the sea

There are many good reasons to visit the Marche, a really surprising region that has succeeded in preserving a somewhat secluded atmosphere steeped in tradition and respect for its past, which can surprise and charm even the most discerning visitor.

The Marche region captivates visitors because they feel they are living in another dimension, where time seems to have resumed its right rhythm and the environment is still the soothing and intimate landscape of a Renaissance painting.

Here is a list of some of the most interesting places to visit. For more information, please go to www.destinazionemarche.it/ and destinazionefano.it/

In the region of blue sea and very long beaches, a hundred cities, a hundred landscapes and a hundred dishes, it is a shame to follow a pre-established route, because everything is beautiful here. It is a pleasure to wander aimlessly along the roads that climb hills covered with olive trees, vineyards, sunflowers and lavender, a stone's throw from the ancient walled villages that are scattered on top of the hills.

And, once you arrive, you will inevitably be impressed by the wealth of cultural heritage in the ancient historic towns, with their quiet squares, imposing fortresses, ancient churches, interesting museums, Roman walls, Renaissance architectures, the eighteenth century noblemen’s mansions, the dazzling historical theatres, the engaging re-enactments in period clothing...

“A trip to the Marche at a leisurely pace leads to seeing wonders...”
Guido Piovene, Viaggio in Italia, 1957

Frasassi Caves

Considered among the most beautiful in Europe, the Frasassi Caves are an amazing underground landscape. The power and magic of nature take on solid form in the Frasassi Caves, one of the most incredible places in Italy, within the large green area of the Gola della Rossa gorge and the Frasassi Regional Natural Park. Specifically, these underground karst caves are a sort of parallel universe, decorated with numerous stalagmites and stalactites. These natural sculptures come in many different shapes and have been created by the never-ending action of water and rock.

Activities

The Marche region has a rich calendar of events, which vary during the year.

  • Fano dei Cesari: history in Roman clothing, meetings and events, the emperor's dinner.
  • Fano Jazz by the sea, the Summer Carnival  with a procession of parade floats.
  • The Fair of St. Bartholomew, with its ancient origins, the antiques market exhibition.
  • CaterRaduno, an event all fans of Caterpillar, Radio 2's cult programme, are eager to attend, is held in Senigallia, with music and other activities.
  • Summer Jamboree, a musical event.
  • Finally, the Fiera di S. Agostino, the traditional event that every year reminds tourists and locals of the city’s ancient sea-trading history.

 Shopping

There are many retail outlets in the Marche (fashion, shoes, bags), all easily accessible from Marotta.

  • If you are looking for shoes, head for the Valleverde outlet in Coriano di Rimini.
